Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud said, although the whole world has recognized the progress of Bangladesh in the last 13 years, it is difficult for Mirza Fakhrul to accept these because the progress of the people of the country is not their choice, BNP wants the people of the country to be poor.

He was speaking as the chief guest at the Telepress-Trab Media Awards 2022, presided over by Salam Mahmud, president of the Television Reporters Unity of Bangladesh, at Dhaka Club in the capital's Shahbagh on Saturday afternoon. National Press Club Presi dent Farida Yasmin addressed as  special guest.

Asked about the BNP secretary general's remarks that the country's development data is fake, the Information and Broadcasting Minister said, "The per capita income of the people has risen from 800 to 2,800 in the last 13 years under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and this increase has been acknowledged by everyone in the world, including the IMF and the World Bank. Our per capita income has surpassed that of Pakistan long ago and now surpasses that of India. People's purchasing power has multiplied, GDP growth has increased. Bangladesh is one of the top 20 countries in the world in terms of GDP growth in Corona.”

"Even if the international organizations recognize the development of the country, it is difficult for Mirza Fakhrul to accept these because the people of the country do not like their progress and BNP wants the people of the country to be poor," said Dr Hasan Mahmud. In this connection, he further said, 'BNP's finance minister stood inthe parliament and said - it is not good to be self-sufficient in food, then we will not get help from outside.

Those who have such mentality will not like progress. That's why they talk about it in a confusing way. '

In response to another comment of the BNP secretary general, 'Awami League is afraid of the caretaker government', the information minister said, 'According to the constitution, there is no scope for a caretaker government. Elections will be held under the Election Commission and then the Awami League government, whether it is an election-time government or a caretaker government, will fulfill that responsibility. The elections that have taken place in the country have been very fair, the BNP has won in many of them. In fact, the BNP is afraid of the election as it has become isolated.

Since their two leaders Begum Zia and Tareq Rahman will not be able to take part in the election as they have been convicted in court, they have lost interest in the election.

Earlier, speaking at the media awards ceremony, Information and Broadcasting Minister said, 'As there are talented directors in this country, our children are beautiful to look at and also talented in acting. There is no need to bring in foreign 2nd-3rd grade artists to make commercials and movies. In the era of free market economy, we are not forbidding anyone, if anyone wants to bring in foreign artists, they will have to pay taxes due to the government, said the Information and Broadcasting Minister. The minister then congratulated the winners. The awardees included folk singer Mamtaz Begum, MP, writer Anisul Haque, singer Dinat Jahan Munni and TV journalist Shafiullha Suman.
