BNP leaders and activists gathered outside Evercare Hospital in Dhaka on Thursday afternoon as party acting chairman Tarique Rahman is scheduled to visit his mother, Khaleda Zia.
Khaleda Zia, the BNP chairperson, has been receiving treatment at the private hospital for around a month.
Party sources said Tarique Rahman was expected to visit her after addressing a rally in the 300-feet road area.
Visiting the spot around 2:00pm, this correspondent saw groups of BNP supporters standing along the roadside outside the hospital, holding banners.
Law enforcement agencies restricted access to the road in front of the hospital, allowing entry only to patients and authorised vehicles amid heightened security.
Members of the police, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Ansar and other law enforcement agencies were deployed in the area to maintain order.
