BNP sees darkness of night in daylight: Obaidul Quader

Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Saturday said Bangladesh, which was a backward nation 12 years ago, is now marching forward on the development highway at an indomitable speed under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

“Today’s Bangladesh is very different in development and achievements from the Bangladesh of 12 years back. Now Bangladesh’s per capita income has raised to $2227 which couldn’t be imagined earlier,” he said.

He made the assertion while speaking as the chief guest at the Nagar Swechchhasebak League Virtual Conference at Lalkhan Bazar Engineers Institution auditorium in Chattogram city.

He said, Bangabandhu's daughter Sheikh Hasina has changed the face of Bangladesh.  That Bangladesh is respected all over the world today. Bangladesh is ahead of Pakistan today in almost every index, leaving Pakistan behind.  Therefore, Bangladesh is moving forward with the tag of developing country under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina.

‘But a section of people willingly refuse to see this development.  This group sees the darkness of night in the light of day.  This group is Bangladesh Nationalist Party-BNP.

Referring to the ongoing development work, the minister said, "When these development works are completed, the BNP will have nothing more to say.  Give us a picture of their development - showing that they can gain the trust of the people!  The BNP has become irrelevant day by day by sponsoring negative politics and communal politics.  Their goal is to turn the country into an ineffective state to delay Bangladesh's development progress.  With this goal in mind, the BNP wants to destabilize the country.  They have conspired against the country with communal power. All the anti-independence, communal and anti-development forces have been organized under the leadership of BNP.  But government hopes that any conspiracy is bound to be thwarted by the resistance of the people.”

Speaking on the conference, he said the selection of new leadership is an organizational process.  It has nothing to do with defeat, nor does it have the joy of victory.  Those who will be elected have a big responsibility.  Patriotic workers are the strength of the country's leader Sheikh Hasina, the strength of the Awami League.

Minister Obaidul Quader said, now we have 2 big challenges in front of us.  One challenge is to prevent corona, another is to deal with violent sectarianism.  I hope that the Volunteer League will move forward in an organized manner under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina to face the challenges.

Corona's second wave at this time has reached alarming levels, he said.  The problems in the border areas are very obvious.  Experts in Dhaka are also hinting at a more dire future.
