BNP has sought permission from Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) to hold its pre-announced grand rally on October 28 in front of the party’s Nayapaltan central office in Dhaka.

A delegation of the party submitted a letter to the DMP office. BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed said this at a press briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan office on Sunday.

Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed said that they submitted the letter to the DMP informing the police authorities about their party’s decision to hold the grand rally on October 28. “In the letter, we mentioned that we will hold our programme peacefully,” he added.

He hoped that the DMP authorities would cooperate with them in holding the rally in Dhaka. Earlier on Wednesday, BNP announced to hold a grand rally in the city on October 28 as part of its one-point movement to oust the government.

“We will hold a grand rally in Dhaka on October 28 (Saturday). From this grand rally, our grand journey will begin,” BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said while announcing the programme at Nayapaltan.

Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at a press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan central also said their party has only a plan to hold the grand rally peacefully, not to sit on the streets. “We didn’t ask our leaders and workers to come to Dhaka and sit on the streets. Rather, we told them after the programme on October 28, everyone would go back to their respective places and they would wait for the next programme,” he said.

He said that they have informed the DMP that they want to hold the rally in front of their Nayapaltan office and it is now the responsibility of the police authorities to ensure necessary security for the programme.

He hoped that leaders and activists of the BNP would be able to come to the rally from across the country without any obstacles and raise their voices in favour of their demand.
