BNP’s statements are like words of parrot: Hasan

Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud said BNP leaders are talking like parrots as they are saying the only words which they are taught.

"BNP leaders including Khandaker Mosharraf are speaking like the parrot and their statements are stereotype. They have been giving such statements for the last 14 years and there is nothing new. In fact, they (BNP) become isolated in the last 14 years," he said.

The minister told reporters after exchanging views with the newly-elected executive committee members of the Bangladesh Cine Journalist Association (BCJA) at the meeting room of his ministry at the Secretariat in the city on Thursday.

Replying to another query over the mass procession of BNP, Hasan said there is no counter programme of Awami League on December 30. But, the leaders and activists of the party (AL) will remain alert in different spots of the capital, he added.

He said they (BNP) had carried out anarchies and attacks on innocent people and destroyed public properties at different places across the country in the name of the movement in the past. Even, they had the plan to create chaos in Dhaka city centring their December 10 programme though they were not succeeded, he added.

The minister said they (BNP) had set fire to vehicles and tried to carry out violence at Chattogram and other cities. People feel scared if BNP declares any programme, said Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary.

He said the government has the responsibility to stay beside the countrymen as none can destroy peace, law and order as well as stability. "Thus, our party (AL) leaders and activists will remain alert in Dhaka city and other parts of the country," he added.

Replying to another query over Rangpur City Corporation polls, the minister said the polls were held in peaceful and transparent manners and every candidate has expressed their satisfaction.

Most of the councillor candidates of Awami League were elected in the polls while the mayoral candidate of the party secured fewer votes, he added.

"So, it is easy to understand where is the weakness," said Hasan.

Earlier in the meeting, BCJA president Raju Alim, senior vice presidents - Anjan Rahman and Rashed Rain and general secretary Riman Mahfuz congratulated the minister.

BCJA joint general secretary Rahat Saiful, treasurer Sahabuddin Majumder, organizing secretary Shafiqul Alam Milan, research secretary Rezaur Rahman Rizvi, women affairs secretary Anjuman Ara Shilpi, sports secretary Irani Biswas, publicity secretary Abu Hurayra Murad, office secretary Ahmed Tepantor, members Litan Ershad, Mainul Haque Bhuiyan, Ruhul Amin Bhuiyan, Aminul Islam Litan, Anisul Haque Rashed, Ruhul Shakhawat, Litan Rahman, Shafiullah Suman Rafi Hossian, among others, were present.
