August is the month of mourning. On 15th of this month in 1975, anti-liberation evil force killed Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Father of the Nation and the greatest Bengali of thousand years, along with most of his family members.

In the same month in 2004, a grenade attack was carried out on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the daughter of the Father of the Nation, as part of a deep-rooted conspiracy to kill her. Sheikh Hasina narrowly escaped the attack, but 24 of her party colleagues were killed and 500 others were injured.

Like previous years, the ruling Awami League is observing a month-long programme commemorating the 46th martyrdom anniversary of Bangabandhu and National Mourning Day on a limited scale this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

On the occasion of Mujib Barsho as well as the mourning month, newly completed five housing projects comprising 2474 flats for the government officials and employees in the capital as well as an integrated office building in Madaripur were inaugurated.

Besides, 300 rental-based flats were also handed over to the slum dwellers constructed by the National Housing Authority at Mirpur in the capital.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the handover ceremony as the chief guest at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre, joining virtually from her official residence Ganabhaban on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said that BNP is making falsehood and spreading misleading information over the assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

“It is now clear that who were behind Bangabandhu assassination. Now the BNP is spreading the story that the Awami League is involved in the assassination and the government is trying to tarnish the image of Ziaur Rahman. The BNP leaders are making their failed attempts in a new way to hide the historical truth with their comments, but there will be no benefit in doing so.” he said.

Obaidul Quader made the comment at a press conference at his official residence in the capital in response to BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s comments centering Bangabandhu’s assassination.

The AL leader said when the month of August comes, BNP becomes active with to carry out their evil acts to hide the historical truth.

Questioning the role of Zia as the army chief after the assassination of Bangabandhu, he said: “It is now clear to the nation who were the beneficiaries of Bangabandhu’s assassination, killer Mostaq made whom the army chief, what was the role of Zia, killers had reported to whom after staging the carnage and what was the comment of Zia at that time.”
