Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Monday organised a rally at different parts of the country marking its 41st founding anniversary. Party leaders and activists raised various slogans as they paraded city streets and demanded the release of the party Chairperson Khaleda Zia. They vowed to continue movement until their demands are met.
Talking to reporters at a rally in Dhaka, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said they have vowed on this day to ‘restore’ democracy and free Khaleda Zia from jail. He said they will intensify their movement demanding the release of Khaleda and holding a fresh national election under a non-party administration.
BNP and its associate bodies celebrated the founding anniversary with various programs across the country. Among others, BNP Standing Committee members Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Moudud Ahmed, Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Vice-Chairmen Shahjahan Omar, Ahmed Azam Khan and AZM Zahid Hossain also participated in the rally in Dhaka.
BNP is celebrating its founding anniversary without Chairperson Khaleda for the second consecutive year as she is in jail since February 8, 2018, after a lower court convicted her in a graft case.
