BNP proves its anti-dev stance by opposing BRICS: Hasan

Information and Broadcasting Minister and Joint General Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League Dr. Hasan Mahmud said that BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir's opposition to the development and progress of Bangladesh is proof of his opposition to joining the economic alliance BRICS.

He said, “I was listening to an interview of Mirza Fakhrul on a popular television.  He said there they have started a movement of varying degrees and for the past one year they are not involved in any terrorist activities. It is spoken and recorded.  Earlier they were associated with terrorist activities, which he admitted through his statement.”

Dr Hasan Mahmud was taking to journalists at his residence in Chattogram city on Saturday afternoon. Dr. Hasan Mahmud said, BRICS is an alliance of the world's emerging economies.  Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa are in this alliance.  Emerging economies are the world's emerging economic powerhouses.

Everyone appreciates that power.  Not only has Bangladesh expressed its desire to join, but since Bangladesh is an emerging economy, they have urged Bangladesh to join BRICS.  It is a matter of dignity and honour for Bangladesh.  Through this, BRICS has also recognized that Bangladesh is now an emerging economy under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina.  Joining there will be multi-dimensional benefits for Bangladesh.

He said that Mirza Fakhrul's statement that BNP is not involved in terrorist activities for a year is also not correct.  You have seen that in the last few months, they clashed with the police at various places, vandalized cars and horses, set fire to a double-decker bus in Dhaka, vandalized the mural of Bangabandhu in Jamalkhan, Chattogram, and pictures of people associated with our freedom movement to preserve history and heritage.  No matter what Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir says, they are involved in terrorist activities.  However, he admitted through this statement that they were involved in terrorist activities earlier.

Information Minister Hasan Mahmud said in response to journalists' questions about the manner in which the next election will be held and the activities of China, India and America regarding the election, the election will be held under the Election Commission, no election is held under the government.  When BNP was in government they held the election on February 15 under the government.  This is where BNP has messed up.  The government that will be in charge will only facilitate the Election Commission.  No matter how much the BNP and its allies make demands, not even a hair of the constitution will be disturbed.  They have been making this demand since the 2014 election, they also made the same demand in the 2018 election.

He said that elections in our country will be conducted according to the constitution just like the elections are conducted in other parliamentary democracies including India, Australia, England, New Zealand, Japan.  In the same way as the current government is performing its duties there, in our country also the current government will perform its duties as an election period government under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and then the government will have only routine work.  From the transfer of all departments and organizations related to the election, everything is entrusted to the Election Commission.

This time, Eid-ul-Azha was celebrated in a very happy atmosphere, and the Eid journey was also uneventful, said Dr. Hasan Mahmud.  A total of 1 crore 41 thousand 812 cattle were Qurbani this year.  The number of cattle last year was 99 lakh 50 thousand 763.  And this year the number of Qurbani cattle was 1 crore 25 lakh 36 thousand.  All in all, a very good Eid was celebrated this year, especially as cattle prices were low towards the end.  He said, undoubtedly, it has become possible for people to celebrate Eid in this way due to the various measures taken by our government.  Today, the progress of the country is reflected in the increased capacity of people to make Qurbani.   BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has been shouting for the last three days that the people of the country are in trouble.  If the people of the country are in trouble, then how 1 lakh more cattle were Qurbani than last time - asked the information minister.  He said, there is a party in Bangladesh that heats up the television screen after midnight.  Not all of them, BNP and its allies see any development in the country.

How do you see the activity that we are seeing in China, US and India - the information minister said to a question from the journalists, look at what all the countries are doing related to geo-politics, it is not our concern, it is not our question.  Elections will be held in our country, our voters will decide who they will vote for during the elections.  So we don't have to worry about what they are doing. Deputy Education Minister Barrister Muhibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel, Bangladesh Awami League Relief and Social Welfare Affairs Secretary Aminul Islam, Chattogram Metropolitan Awami League Acting President Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury, General Secretary Former Mayor AJM Nashir Uddin Chowdhury, Organizing Secretary Noman Al Mahmud MP and ChattogramLeaders including North District Awami League President MA Salam, South District Acting President Motaherul Islam Chowdhury were present.
