War usually causes extensive devastation while dialogue brings about solution. The one-point demand and rigidity of the BNP results in the culmination of war.
Therefore, Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s (BNP) one-point demand is a wrong trajectory for achieving democracy. That means the BNP is neither working for democracy nor for fair election which their foreign mentors are talking about.
As the party (BNP) has lost its path after being isolated from the people, BNP and their followers are hatching conspiracies against the country and its people.
BNP’s senior leaders are now terming the constitutionally and democratically elected government as an illegal-unelected government because they have no respect for the democratic system.
But, it is good to note that democracy controls itself.
BNP’s one-point demand has already been rejected by the people as there is no democracy inside and out of BNP.
If Tarique Zia, staying in London, sends a letter or verbally says that Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will not be the secretary general of BNP, it will be enough for removing him from his post.
But it is impossible for Awami League to say something like this without holding council.
However, BNP always speaks about establishing democracy in the country but the party does not practise it (democracy) within the party.
The party has failed to hold its councils at grassroots level .
So, it is ridiculous as the party which has no democracy will establish democracy in the country.
As part of the party’s move to intensify its anti-government movement, BNP declared one-point demand in order to force the government to step down immediately and hand over power to a non-party administration ahead of the country’s general elections.
But, the ruling Awami League does not do counter politics rather the party does the politics of ideology and it believes in people’s welfare and democracy.
Besides, the Awami League is a party working for the people’s welfare.
Therefore, it is not so easy to push away the Awami League from power.
On the other hand, leaders and workers of BNP are doing politics for serving their own purpose and interest instead of people of the country.
What exactly is party politics?
Political parties are an essential aspect of a nation’s democracy.
Even in non-partisan places, there exist platforms that produce candidates to contest elections.
In the fields of history and political science, a revolution is a radical change in the established order, usually the established government and social institutions.
But, no revolution succeeds without ordinary people.
The BNP’s politics, not the country, has reached the brink of destruction today.
The so-called movement of BNP is a movement to grab power as there is no involvement of people in this movement.
They all (BNP leaders) want power but they are afraid of joining elections.
So, they have taken stance in favour of the unelected government system.
In the name of so-called movement, they (BNP) want to gain political interest by creating a frightening situation through terrorism and violence.
The upcoming general election will be held as per the constitution under the Election Commission.
And the commission has the constitutional obligation to conduct the 12th national polls between December, 2023 and January 29, 2024.
Keeping this in mind, the commission is working hard to arrange the next general elections in a free, fair and participatory manner.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has also expressed her firm commitment and determination to holding a fair election.
The Awami League government has done everything required to hold a fair election that includes introducing a voter list with photographs and transparent ballot boxes as none can manipulate the polls.
But, the BNP has no respect for democratic system of Bangladesh.
In the past elections were held according to the constitutional provisions and the people of the country voted in favour of the Awami League.
The government was formed under the leadership of Awami League President and daughter of Bangabandhu Sheikh Hasina based on the verdict of the people.
Elections will be held on time to protect the Constitutional continuity following the democratic process in the coming days.
The people of this country will not accept the handover of power to any undemocratic evil power by disrupting the democratic process.
After independence, Bangabandhu had established all the sectors of the state on a solid foundation to establish the democratic rights of the people of this country.
Therefore, BNP should take part in the polls instead of hatching conspiracy to destroy the country’s democratic process.
But if the BNP continued to try to create anarchy in the name of so-called movement, the party must not be allowed to play this game of division in politics.
Though the BNP-led four-party alliance received only 32 seats in the ninth national parliamentary elections held on 29 December 2008, their lawmakers had the opportunity to join the parliament during its session and raise voice against the treasury bench as an opposition political party.
The then opposition leader Begum Khaleda Zia also used to go to her designated office at the parliament with protocol and security provided by the government.
The BNP MPs also enjoyed various benefits as the members of the parliament.
They were also the members of parliamentary standing committee.
The party also became isolated from the mass people as it does not have representation in the present parliament.
As a result, the party’s firm determination to turn around and bring qualitative changes within the party since 2009, remain miles away mainly due to bitterness among the party ranks and files.
But when the party boycotted January 5 polls in 2014 its senior leaders were completely disconnected from the parliament and failed to enjoy all facilities as one of the two major political parties in Bangladesh.
However, the party joined polls held in 2018 and won only seven seats.
But, the party’s all seven lawmakers resigned from parliament last year.
So, if the party does not join the 12th national parliamentary polls, it will fall in more vulnerable situation in Bangladesh politics.
So this time, the BNP will not do the same mistake again considering its existence in the politics.
