Five of all seven members of parliament (MPs) of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) have submitted their resignation letters to the Speaker of the House Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in person on Sunday. The five BNP lawmakers are Md Zahidur Rahman of Thakurgaon-3; Md Mosharof Hosen of Bogura-4; Gulam Mohammad Siraj of Bogura-6; Md Aminul Islam of Chapainawabganj-2 and Rumeen Farhana, lawmaker from a seat reserved for women.

The other two BNP lawmakers Md Harunur Rashid of Chapainawabganj-3 is now abroad while Abdus Sattar Bhuiyan of Brahmanbaria-2 is sick They will submit their resignation in person later.

Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury has accepted their resignation letters. Therefore, those five seats are now vacant. The speaker would examine the last two resignation letters before making a decision, as the MPs were not present there physically.

We all must remain united

 against all sorts of conspiracies

 against the country

As part of their strategy, the BNP lawmakers announced their decision to resign from the National Parliament from a rally in Dhaka on Saturday. After submitting the resignation, the immediate past BNP lawmaker Rumeen Farhana alleged that they were not allowed to talk during parliament session. We think Rumeen Farhana’s allegation is false as they were given enough time to talk in the parliament during all sessions in last four years.

BNP also urged the Jatiya Party to resign from the parliament. But Jatiya Party Secretary General Mujibul Haque Chunnu rejected the BNP’s call outright, saying they will not resign from parliament. Besides, they do not wage movement to oust the government rather they are waging movement to show the flaws of the government to continue the democratic trend.

When all political parties are doing politics in democratic way and waging movement for government changeover through polls, BNP in association the anti-liberation force Jamaat-Shibir are hatching repeated conspiracies to create chaos in the country. The party has became isolated from the mass people as it does not have representation in the present parliament right now. It is clear to all that the party wants to intimidate the ruling Awami League in many ways.

The BNP wanted to create unrest in the country centering its public rally in the capital but their conspiracy has failed. In line with plot, they might have taken such decision just one year ahead of the next national elections.

Leaders and workers of Awami League will have to remain on the streets to protect lives and property of the people. Anti-liberation forces cannot be victorious in the month of victory. We all must remain united against all sorts of conspiracies against the country.
