BNP men clash over jhut business control in Gazipur

Two groups of BNP men locked in an infighting over the control of jhut (garment wastages) business in Sreepur Upazila of Gazipur district on Wednesday causing traffic movement on Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway halt.

The incident took place in front of the factory of SQ Celsius Limited beside the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway at Beraiderchala.

According to police and local sources, the factory authorities had issued a work order to SM Palash, a member of the convening committee of Gazipur district unit of Jubo Dal, to take over garment wastages of the SQ Celsius Limited factory. 

As per the work order, Palash was loading garment wastages in two pick-up vans from the factory on Wednesday morning. 

On oinformation, men of Abul Kalam Azad, president of district unit of Krishok Dal, rushed to the spot being equipped with arms and sticks. They also obstructed the jhut loading process being carried out by the men of Jubo Dal leader Palash. 

At one stage, men of both the groups took part in chases and counter chases leading to clashes between them.

At this time, traffic movement on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway was stopped for about an hour resulting a traffi jam and panic among the residents in the area.

Jubo Dal leader Palash claimed, two pick-up vans were sent to the factory to take the garment wastages. But, hired goons of district unit Krishok Dal leader Abul Kalam Azad stood in front of the factory with sticks. They also vandalized several motorcycles and his (Palash) office located in front of SQ Celsius Limited. On the other hand, Krishak Dal leader Abul Kalam Azad claimed, he had been staying in Dhaka during the incident and he has no involvement in it.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sreepur Police Station Mohammad Zainal Abedin said that police were sent to the spot to bring the situation under control. 

If any complaint is received, legal action will be taken through investigation, he said.
