Veteran politician, BNP leader Zainul Abdin Farroque becoming the much deserving aspirant for the dignified position of the Speaker of the National Parliament of Bangladesh.
Among the names of some other senior politicians and BNP leaders, the name of Zainul Abedin Farroque has been much talked in the recent times due to his wider acceptability, worthiness and longtime crucial contribution to the political landscape of Bangladesh
As the position of Speaker requires that level of competency, acceptability, experience and political image, Zainul Abedin Faruk remains much forward than other probable candidates for this position.
Soon after assuming in office, the newly formed BNP lead government has announced to place the fittest persons for the highly dignified and responsible positions of the state including Parliament Speaker, since then the name of Mr Farroque is being discussed among general people.
Born in Noakhali in 1949, Zainul Abdin Farroque had engaged himself in socio-political activities since his student life. Having participated in the Liberation War in 1971, he contributed to the struggle for independence and national sovereignty.
In his over 51 year’s political career, Mr. Faruk has been actively involved in national politics, democratic movements, and parliamentary leadership. For the past 31 years, he has been an influential member of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
Within the party, he has played important roles in organizing political movements, guiding policy discussions, and strengthening the party’s structure. His leadership style is known for being direct, determined, and strongly committed to democratic values.
As of February 2026, Zainul Abdin Farroque was elected to the 13th Jatiya Sangsad (National
Parliament) from the Noakhali-2 constituency. In the general election held on February 12,
2026, he secured a notable 83,982 votes, demonstrating his enduring popularity and the trust his community places in him.
Throughout his career, Farroque has taken on significant advisory roles. He served as an
Adviser to the BNP Chairperson, the late Khaleda Zia, providing strategic guidance during pivotal moments in the party's history.
Additionally, he served as the Opposition Chief Whip in the Bangladesh Parliament from 2009 to 2014, showcasing his leadership and negotiation skills in a challenging political landscape.
Farroque has been a consistent representative for the people of Noakhali, particularly focusing on the Noakhali-1 and Noakhali-2 constituencies since 1991. His long-standing commitment to this region highlights his dedication to addressing local issues and advocating for the needs of his constituents.
During an opposition demonstration near the Parliament building in Dhaka, he was reportedly assaulted by police and sustained injuries. The incident received significant national attention and became a symbol of political conflict during that period.
