A portion of Hefazat-e-Islam and some family members of slain Allama Shah Ahmed Shafi claimed that the Islamic scholar was murdered in a planned way. Moreover, they expressed their dissatisfaction over the leadership of the party.

They made the claim at a press conference in Chattogram Press Club on Saturday.

Joint Secretary General of Hefazat Moinuddin Ruhi and Allama Shafi’s brother-in-law M Moin Uddin along with other Hefazat leaders spoke at the press meet.

In Chattogram Press Club, the Hefazat leaders and Shafi’s relatives also said, “BNP and Jamaat leaders are being made the top brass of Hefazat-e-Islam.”

“Hefazat chief Allama Shaha Ahmed Shafi was actually murdered. And everything was pre-planned,” they added.

Anas Madani, son of Allama shafi, was scheduled to be present in the press meet. But he did not appear there as he received death-threat earlier, sources said.

Allama Shafi’s brother-in-law Moin Uddin said, “Hefazat was established as a non-political Islamic party by Allama Shah Ahmed Shafi. But, now it is being a political party with the affiliation of BNP and Jamaat-e-Islam.”

Joint Secretary General of Hefazat Moinuddin Ruhi said, “The other portion of Hefazat wants to make a coalition with Jamaat-Shibir. They want to establish the agenda of Jamaat-Shibir. It is crystal clear.”

“We will sit with our senior leaders and talk to them over this issue on November 15. We will take next step after that,” he added.

He further said, “Allama Shafi never made any nexus with Jamaat.”

On the other hand, supporters of Allama Shafi and senior Hefazat leaders arranged a press conference at National Press Club in Dhaka on Saturday where the leaders said that the council of Hefazat-e-Islam cannot be held in a hidden way.

Joint Secretary General of Hefazat, Mufti Foyzullah, said, “The Alem society will not tolerate any mismanagement in the council. The council must be held in the presence of the mainstream leaders of the organisation.”

“Some plotters are trying to tarnish the glory and tradition of the organisation. They will be unmasked soon,” he added.
