Local leaders and activists of Awami League took out 'peace processions' in groups in several places of Rajshahi amid the futile efforts of  BNP, Jamaat and their associate organisations to put blockades in several places of the city on Sunday. However, no effect of the BNP-Jamaat back blockade was noticed anywhere in the city today. All activities of the city remained normal.

It is learnt, this ( Sunday) morning, BNP and Chhatradal activists tried to block roads at Tun bypass and Daira Paker crossing areas of the city by putting bricks on roads around 7-30 a.m. Being informed, police rushed to the spot and the pro-blockade activists managed to escape the scene. Earlier, around 6-00 a.m. BNP and Jamaat activists tried to block the Rajshahi-Dhaka highway near the Octroi crossing of the city by burning tires on the road. Police reached the spot in a short time when the troublemakers fled from the scene.

On the other hand, in protest against the blockade of BNP-Jamaat, city unit of Awami League took out Peace Processions and Development rallies in various places of Rajshahi city. In the morning, a peace procession paraded various streets of the Binodepur Bazar area of the city. A development meeting was also held after the procession at Binodepur Bazar where Presidium Member of Awami League, RCC Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton attended and addressed as the chief guest.  Similar peace processions and meetings were also held at Rajshahi Shaheb Bazaar, Rajshahi Court Bazaar, Rajshahi Upasahar Bazar, Railgate, Sagorpara and Shalbagan Bazar areas where front-ranking AL, Mohila Awami League and Jubo League leaders and activists attended.

In the meeting at Binodepur RCC Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman said it was the question from the people of the country why is such blockade, fire-terrorism and arsoning? About the demand for the National elections under the Caretaker government, Liton said the highest court of the country in a verdict mentioned that there is no necessity for the Caretaker government to hold elections.
