The Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) and Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) on Sunday jointly issued a 72-hour ultimatum to BNP and Jamaat for seeking apologies for attacking on journalists while they were discharging their professional duties on Saturday.

Both the BFUJ and DUJ leaders also warned that they would boycott all news related to BNP and Jamaat unless they do not seek apologies to journalists who were attacked during Saturday’s rally prgrammes.

The journalists’ organization came up with the demands at a protest rally organized by the BFUJ and DUJ in front of the National Press Club on Sunday.

The leaders of the organisations said they would also withhold the publication of any positive news about BNP Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman.

They demanded the identification and prosecution of those responsible for the attacks on journalists during the clashes between BNP-Jammat and Awami League.

The journalists’ leaders alleged that the attacks were made in pre-planned ways.

National Press Club general secretary Shyamal Dutta, BFUJ president Omar Faruk, BFUJ secretary general Deep Azad, DUJ president Sohel Haider Chowdhury, its general secretary Akhter Hossain, among others, spoke the rally.
