BNP-Jamaat arsonists set fire to four buses in Dhaka and Chattogram on Tuesday during the countrywide hartal called by the BNP and Jamaat.

Dhaka: A bus of Rob Rob Paribahan was set ablaze by BNP-Jamaat men near Meradia Bazar in Khilgaon at around 7:00am.

Moshiur Rahman, the officer-in-charge (OC) of Rampura Police Station, said that two youths riding a motorcycle set fire to the bus before quickly fleeing the scene. 

Upon receiving the information, fire service personnel promptly arrived and extinguished the fire. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries in this incident, he added.

In another incident, a group of arsonists set fire to a bus of Malancha Paribahan in front of Gulistan’s GPO at around 1:00pm.

Two firefighting units rushed to the spot after receiving information, said Lima Khanom, control room officer of the Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence.

Later the flame was doused around 1:16 pm. No casualties were reported from the incident, yet it resulted in damages estimated at Tk 3 lakh.

BNP-Jamaat miscreants set fire to a passenger bus of number 13 in Mohammadpur of the capital.

Mohammadpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahfuz Bhuiyan, said this two youths riding on a motorcycle set the bus on fire and fled.

On information, the fire service personnel rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire.

However, no one was injured in this incident, he added.

Chattogram: BNP-Jamaat terrors set a bus on fire in Chandanaish upazila on Dhaka-Cox’s Bazar highway in Chattogram early Tuesday.

According to fire service sources, unidentified miscreants set fire to the passenger minibus that was parked in Chandnaish Fakirhat area.

SM Obaidul Islam, officer-in-charge of Chandnaish Police Station, said on information, police and fire service personnel rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control.

The seats of the bus were damaged in the fire, but no casualties were reported.

Efforts are on to identify and arrest the people who were involved in the arson attack, and a case has been filed in this connection, the OC added.

Just an hour before the hartal, four people, including a child, were killed as arsonists set fire to the Dhaka-bound Mohanganj Express train in the capital's Tejgaon Railway station area.
