BNP-Jamaat arsonists set fire to five buses and two trucks in Dhaka and Gazipur on Sunday during the ongoing 48-hour countrywide blockade of road, rail, and waterways enforced by the BNP and Jamaat.
Dhaka: BNP-Jamaat miscreants set a bus on fire near Fulbaria bus stand in the city’s Gulistan area on Sunday. Miscreants set the bus afire around 2:52pm, creating panic among the local people.
Shahjahan Shikdar, deputy director of Fire Service and Civil Defence's Media Cell said, “Victor Paribahan bus was set on fire on Sunday afternoon.”
On information, two firefighting units rushed to the spot under police protection and extinguished the blaze, he added.
He said the bus was burnt but no one was injured.
In another incident, BNP-Jamaat terrors set fire to a bus at Sabujbagh area in the city on Sunday morning.
Before the enforcement of the 48-hour blockade three buses have been torched on Saturday night. The incidents occurred at night in different areas of Dhaka between 10:30pm and 11pm on Saturday.
Pro-blockade elements set fire to buses in Sayedabad, Gabtali, and Agargaon areas of the capital. But no casualties were reported in the incidents.
Meanwhile, two persons were injured in cocktail explosion in the capital's Farmgate area on Saturday night. The injured are Bangladesh Bank joint director Emdadul Haque Khan, 56, and Nazmus Shahadat Alam, 38, an official of another organasation.
They said while returning home around 9:00pm at their Mohammadpur residence after ending work in Karwan Bazar, suddenly two cocktails were exploded in front of Farmview Super Market in Farmgate, leaving them injured.
Dinajpur: A truck with paddy was set ablaze by BNP-Jamaat miscreants at Rampur Bazar in Dinajpur town on early Sunday amid the nationwide 48-hour blockade.
The incident took place at Rampur Bazar area of Panchagarh-Dinajpur highway of Upazila around 12:30am.
In this incident, the driver of the truck, Anisur Rahman, got burns from below his knees. He has been sent to Kaharol Upazila Health Complex.
Earlier on November 27, miscreants set fire to a truck loaded with paddy in Mohammadpur area of upazila.
Truck driver Anisur Rahman said, he was going towards Dinajpur with paddy from Panchagarh. He was accompanied by an assistant. At around 12:30 am, 8 to 10 motorcycles blocked waylaid their truck. After that the miscreants started throwing bricks randomly. It broke the windshield and hit the assistant in the chest.
“Then I tried to get down from the truck. But before I could understand anything, I saw the truck caught fire. The miscreants quickly fled the scene” he added.
In this regard, Kaharol Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Farukul Islam said, the truck is now
in police custody. Police are trying to identify the people involved in the incident. A similar incident happened a few days ago.
Gazipur: The driver of a truck has sustained burn injuries after his truck was set on fire by BNP-Jamaat activists at Gazipur’s Kaliakair upazila Sunday morning.
The injured driver is Saijol Islam, 45. He was taken to Kaliakair Upazila Health Complex after locals rescued him and his assistant from the burning truck.
Iftekhar Chowdhury, Station Officer of Kaliakair Fire Service and Civil Defence, said, “Miscreants set fire to the moving truck on Dhaka-Tangail highway in Kaliakair upazila around 5:30 am today.”
“Fire engulfed the truck within moments. The driver and his assistant narrowly escaped, but the driver sustained burn injuries,” he said.
On information, three units of fire service rushed to the spot and doused the fire, added Iftekhar.
So far, 244 vehicles and establishments have been set on fire during the blockades and hartals since October 28, according to the fire service.
