Information Minister and Broadcasting Minister and Awami League joint general secretary Dr. Hasan Mahmud has said that the BNP does not want elections, even not the Election Commission, as Begum Zia and Tarique Rahman, who were convicted in the court, will not be able to take part in the elections.
They are trying to figure out if they can do something secretly, he said.
The minister made this comment while exchanging views with journalists at his official residence in the capital on Sunday.
Hasan Mahmud said, “The election commission formed by the President and the process in which the election commission has been formed by including all, is not done even in many old democracies. The Election Commission has been formed with the help of very transparent personalities who have performed their duties successfully, faithfully and honestly in the past.”
The biggest thing is that the name of Kazi Habibul Awal is the intellectual of BNP Gharona. Jafrullah suggested, his name came from there and Mr. Jafrullah has expressed great satisfaction for this, 'said the Information Minister.
He said, “Show the media why he has proposed the name of Kazi Habibul Awal and also explained that everyone including BNP should work with this election commission. In other words, the President has formed an election commission acceptable to all. The Chief Election Commissioner also said in his preliminary response that he wants a meaningful election in the country with everyone.”
Noting that the BNP does not really want an election commission, the Broadcasting Minister said, “The big problem of the BNP is that first of all they have thrown petrol bombs on the people, they have become isolated from the people through terrorism and terror-based politics. Their whole politics is revolving to protect Begum Zia and Tarique Zia.
Secondly, Begum Zia and Tarique Rahman will not be able to hold the next elections because they are convicted accused. So there is no interest in the election of Begum Zia and Tarique Zia. Since they can't choose, and no one knows who the next leader will be. They do not want the election because they cannot vote. They want something to be done illegally, which the people of this country will never allow.
The caretaker government will be the caretaker government during the elections in Bangladesh and there will be no violation of the constitution, said the Information Minister.
Replying to another question, the Information and Broadcasting Minister described his recent visit to India as very fruitful and said that besides inaugurating the film at Agartala in Tripura and Guwahati in Assam, I had meetings with the Governor of Assam and the Chief Minister and other Ministers of Tripura and Assam. The meeting discussed in detail the communication and exchange of cultural elements with Bangladesh by rail, road, sea and air. To this end, the governments of the two countries, under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, have come a long way.
If Tripura and Assam can use the port of Chittagong for import-export trade, they will benefit as much as our economy will benefit greatly, the Minister Hasan Mahmud said.
