BNP cadres torch 154 vehicles in 17 days

The BNP-Jamaat cadres torched about nine vehicles daily on average during their hartal and nation-wide blockade programmes across the country between October 28 and November 13.

Fire Service and Civil Defense officials on Tuesday confirmed this information.

The cadres carried out a total of 154 arson attacks across the country during this period. At least 5 people were injured in the attacks.

According to Talha Bin Zasim, an officer of Fire Service and Civil Defense media cell, of these, 82 arson attacks were carried out in Dhaka city.

Out of the 154 arson attacks across the country, 116 incidents were in Dhaka Division, 14 in Chittagong, nine in Rajshahi, six each in Barisal and Rangpur, two in Khulna, and one in Mymensingh Division.

No arson attacks were reported in the Sylhet Division during this period, said the fire service officials.

A total of 94 buses, three microbuses, two private cars, eight motorcycles, 13 trucks, eight covered vans, one ambulance, two pickup vans, two CNG-run auto-rickshaws, one human haulier, one laguna, one fire engine, one police van, five BNP offices, one Awami League office, one police box, one councilor office, two electricity offices, one bus counter, and two showrooms were burnt during this time.

The highest number of arson attacks (29) were reported on October 28. Analyzing the incidents, fire service found that there were more arson attacks at night (6pm-6am).

Between October 28 and November 13, a total of 61 fire incidents were reported during the day and 93 at night.
