There is no foreign pressure for the restoration of the caretaker government system in Bangladesh. No countries, including European Union, the USA, the UK, have any interest in Bangladesh’s caretaker government issue. Almost all the countries think they sould not interfere in the internal matters of Bangladesh.
People of the country being imbued with the spirit of the liberation war want to turn Bangladesh into ‘Sonar Bangla’ by completing the unfinished tasks of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. They do not want to see the restoration of so-called caretaker government system in the country. No country in the world talks about the caretaker government but the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is talking about the dead issue.
There is no caretaker government system in the world. The apex court of the country scrapped this system forever. The caretaker government played a biased role in 2001 and 2006. People no longer want to see the revival of the caretaker government system. Like other democratic countries, elections are being held in Bangladesh as per the Constitution and so, the issue of unconstitutional government caretaker government can never be entertained.
However, after the January 7 general elections, the BNP again demands that the government resign and hold fresh elections after restoring the caretaker government system.
They (BNP leaders) do not have a clear outline of politics and elections. It is known to all that BNP-Jamaat’s violent activities had invited a political change-over on 11th January 2007, popularly known as 1/11. Later an army- backed caretaker government led by Fakhruddin Ahmed, the former governor of Bangladesh Bank, took over the state power.
The undemocratic government had tried to implement the infamous “Minus Two” formula. The army-backed caretaker government stayed in power for two years but it was supposed to stay for three months more.

The then leader of the opposition in parliament and Awami League president Sheikh Hasina and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia were arrested and sent to jail during that regime. Besides, most of the stalwarts of Awami League and BNP were also arrested, tortured and sent to jail during that period. The caretaker government also inflicted torture on political leaders and workers.
The caretaker government had also destroyed many business establishments, huts and bazars across the country. Therefore, people of the country no longer want to see such government which torture people and destroys democratic process.
When the BNP talks about restoration of the caretaker government system, people get confused thinking whether the party (BNP), which was born undemocratically, wants to install an undemocratic government in the country.
BNP does not want elections and so, it has been demanding the restoration of caretaker government system so that it can help the party to come to power.
BNP leaders are day-draming to seize state power through conspiracy and bu making their foreign masters satisfied. Since its birth, the BNP has been doing anti-people politics based on power-mongering policy.
It seems that BNP has become a fallen political party after being rejected by the people. Therefore, avoiding the path of politics, they (BNP leaders) are trying to capture the state power through conspiracy again.
The people of the country have never responded to the call of the BNP’s movement but its leaders are still harping on waging strong movement against the government.
