BMU holds July Mass Uprising Revival Ceremony

Bangladesh Maritime University (BMU), the country’s only specialized public maritime university, observed the “July Mass Uprising Revival Ceremony-2025, July Commemoration” with due solemnity on Thursday at its temporary campus auditorium in Dhaka.

The event marked the beginning of a two-day programme organised to pay tribute to the martyrs and injured of the historic July Mass Uprising. Rear Admiral Dr. Khandakar Akhter Hossain, Honorable Vice-Chancellor of BMU, attended as the chief guest. Treasurer, Registrar, Deans, Faculty Members, Officers, Employees, students injured during the uprising, and other students were also present.

In their speeches, Assistant Professor Swarna Datta (Department of Bangla), Lecturer Hasibul Islam (Management), and student Anneshana Banik (Port and Shipping Management) reflected on the significance of the uprising and the role of women, commemorating July Women’s Day.

A video clip on the July Mass Uprising was screened, highlighting the historic context. The Vice-Chancellor respectfully recalled the contributions of martyred students and others who sacrificed during the uprising. He also connected the movement to the spirit of the Liberation War and other global uprisings.

He urged students to equip themselves with skills in maritime technology, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Smart Technology, Webpage Design, ChatGPT, Graphics Design, Robotics, and Drone applications for the maritime sector. He stressed the importance of transforming the country’s large population into skilled manpower, given the limited land resources.

The programme ended with a special prayer and a group photograph, reinforcing BMU’s commitment to preserving national history and advancing future maritime leaders.
