Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) has shut down the telemedicine services in Chattogram in protest of the death of a doctor by an attack of a patient's relatives in Khulna. The announcement was made by the Chittagong branch of the organization on Thursday morning.
Chittagong private practice of doctors has been closed for about three months after the onset of corona virus infection. The telemedicine service was launched by BMA on March 25. Physicians from different departments were giving prescriptions and advice to the BMA hotline knowing the symptoms.
Dr. Mujibul Haque Khan, President of BMA Chittagong Branch said, ‘Considering the humanitarian aspect, we launched telemedicine service in Chittagong. But a tragic incident has taken place in Khulna. One of our doctors was beaten to death by the relatives of the patient. In a symbolic protest, we shut down the telemedicine service.
‘If we don’t protest, the morale of the doctors will be broken. The doctors' fight against corona will come to an end. That is why we want those involved in the killing of doctors to be arrested immediately so that no such heinous incident takes place across the country.
