The anti-crime elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested two persons in connection with raping the helpless wife of an ailing patient in the name of donating blood for the patient.
Talking to Bangladesh Post, Major Parvez Arefin, company commander of RAB-2 confirmed the matter on Saturday evening.
The arrested were identified as Md Monowar Hossain Sajib,43 and MasnoAra Begum alias Shilpi,40.
The crime busters arrested the duo from a flat in the city’s Monipuripara on Friday evening.
According to the RAB officer, the victim went to the Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital to admit her husband on Friday. The on-duty doctors suggested arranging blood on an emergency basis to save the patient’s life.
As per doctor’s suggestion, she went to the blood bank of the hospital, which is located at the second floor of the hospital.
She saw three to four men there and enquired about collecting blood for her husband. Sajib assured her of managing blood. At one stage, the rapist brought her to the flat of Shilpi in the name of collecting blood.
Sajib raped the victim in association with Shilpi at the flat, Major Arefin claimed.
The victim did not disclose the incident due to the illness of her husband. ButSajib called the phone number of the victim’s husband saying that blood was managed for him. When the victim’s husband told his wife to collect blood going to the blood bank, she disclosed the incident to her husband fearing further rape.
Later, they complained to RAB. On getting the complaint, RAB started working on it and arrested the duo in connection with the incident.
During the primary interrogation, Sajib admitted his involvement in the rape in association with Shilpi.
He also disclosed that he had extra marital relations with Shilpi.
Major ParvezArefin, who led the operation said,Shilpi is linked with the sex trade. She has some girls. Whenever any client wants girls, she manages girls for them and allows her flat to be used for the purpose.
She was doing sex business in the guise of embroidery work at her flat.
Responding to another question, he said, if any client manages girls and needs a flat, Shilpi also provides them the flat.
Sajib is now jobless. He went to the hospital as his mother was also admitted in the hospital.
A case was filed with Mirpur Model Police Station. The arrested were handed over to the local police.
