BIWTC set to build 2 oil tankers

Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) is going to build two shallow draft oil tankers with capacity of 4 lakh MT to supply fuel to its own ferry and water transports.

To be built with the corporation's own funding, the two new oil tankers will go into operation within June, 2021.

A meeting in the conference room of the ministry of shipping, with Shipping Secretary, Md. Abdus Samad in the chair, made the decision. Speakers said, once the new oil tankers start functioning, the uninterrupted ferry services at the 'Mawa Ghat' and 'Paturia Ghat' will be ensured resulting in enhancing capacity to provide more services to the passengers. 

They said, with introduction of the new oil tankers, the accountability and transparency in supplying fuel to public sector water transports will be ensured.   

Chairman of BIWTC, Pronoy Kanti Biswas, Chief Engineer, Motahar Hossain and other senior officials concerned of the corporation, were present at the meeting.
