Bir Shrestha Nur Mohammad Sheikh’s 87th birthday observed in Narail

The 87th birth anniversary of Bir Shrestha Nur Mohammad Sheikh was observed at Nur Mohammad Nagar under Chandibarpur union in Narail sadar upazila of the district on Saturday morning.

Nur Mohammad Nagar ,which was earlier known as Mahiskhola where he was born,was named after him in his honour,souces said.

The Bir Shrestha Nur Mohammad Sheikh trust and district administration was organised various programmes to mark the occasion.

To mark the birth anniversary, the programme was began with the recitation from the Holly Quran at 8:00 am,giving guard of honour at Nur Mohammad Nagar 10:00 am and offering prayers seeking eternal peace of the departed soul at 10:30 am of Nur Mohammad were held in the Nur Mohammad Sheikh Memorial Museum and Library auditorium on the day. People was also visited his grave at Kashipur of Sharsha in Jashore and say prayers by the graveside today.

The Narail Deputy Commissioner  Muhammad Habibur Rahman who is also the president of the  Nur Mohammad Sheikh Trust,was present the programmes as chief guest while Police Super Prabir Kumar Roy PPM, Additional deputy commissioner (General) Md. Fakrul Hasan, Sadar upazila nirbahi officer Sadia Islam, Bir Shrestha Nur Mohammad Sheikh’s son SM Mostofa Kamal, Trustee members of Bir Shrestha Nur Mohammad Sheikh trust heroic freedom fighter Advocate SA Matin, heroic freedom fighter Saifur Rahmaan Hilu were present as special guests in the occasion. The Trust’s member secretary and Chandibarpur UP chairman Azizur Rahman Bhuyan was presided over the function.

Nur Mohammad born on February 26 of 1936 at Mahiskhola village under Chandibarpur union parishad in Narail sadar upazila.He joined then East Pakistan Rifles (EPR),which is now Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB),on February 26,1959.He later joined the independence war in 1971.

He was killed on September 5,1971 at Goalhati in Jashore by the then Pakistan army.
