UNB, Tangail: Current and former students of Bindu Basini Government Boys High School staged a protest in Tangail on Wednesday afternoon, denouncing the alleged forcible participation of students in a political march organised by the National Citizen Party (NCP).
The students began their protest from the school premises, parading through key streets in the town before gathering in front of the Tangail Press Club.
At the subsequent rally, both alumni and current students voiced strong criticism of the incident.
Speakers at the event claimed that during the NCP’s rally at Nirala intersection on Tuesday, students were taken from classrooms without consent and compelled to participate.
They further alleged that when teachers attempted to intervene, they were met with threats and intimidation.
In response to the allegations, the District unit of the NCP claimed they were unaware of who brought the students to the march. “However, we express our regret to the principal and the school’s current and former students,” the party said. “We assure them that students will not be involved in any future NCP programmes.”
