Biman to resume Dhaka-Rome flights from March

As per its expansion plan, national flag carrying Biman Bangladesh Airlines is going to resume its Dhaka to Rome flight from next March. 

Authorities concerned is now completing all necessary measures aimed at resuming of their flight operations on the specific route. 

Biman Managing Director and CEO Shafiul Azim confirmed it on Thursday while talking to the media. 

He said, “We have latest aircrafts in our fleet. Most of them are long haul carriers. We will operate 270 seater Boeing on this route. We are now planning how we will operate flights to Rome, Italy. If we see its viable to operate flight taking a transit, then we have plan to operate flight to Roma via Kuwait.” 

Currently, the national flag carrier is conducting a market study, and depending on their findings, Biman will decide whether to establish direct flights to Rome or opt for a transit route via Kuwait.

Biman director (Marketing and Sales) Mohammed Salahuddin said, “At the beginning we will operate three weekly flight from Dhaka to Rome. It will take eight to 10 hours flying hours. However, it has not been decided whether there will be a direct flight from Dhaka or transit.” 

He has also informed that flight operation to Rome has been halted since 2009.  

As Biman not provide passenger flight service, but operating cargo flight, provide ground handling service and others. It also aims to increase its quality in each indicators. 

In this regard, the managing director and CEO of Biman said, “To improve ground handling, equipment worth Tk 700 crore has already been purchased, while an additional Tk 300 crore is currently being processed for procurement. We are taking all measures to provide ground handling services to the newly build third terminal.” 

Simultaneously, in an effort to enhance service quality, Biman has issued directives instructing all officials and employees to interact courteously with passengers. Any Biman staff neglecting their duties towards expatriate workers will be subject to scrutiny, he added further.
