Using own expertise for the first time, Biman Bangladesh Airlines has successfully replaced landing gear of a Boeing 777-300 ER aircraft, said a press release on Thursday.

After acquiring proper technical knowledge through advanced training from abroad, Biman's skilled engineers started landing gear replacement activities at Biman Hanger Complex on October 20 which was successfully completed on Thursday.

It said, changing landing gear is a very complex and risky task. Landing gears are changed and overhauled every ten years. The national flag carrier has four Boeing 777-300 ER aircraft, the first of which has completed landing gear replacement.

In December this year, Biman will replace the landing gear of another Boeing 777-300 ER aircraft under its own management.

This will be considered as a milestone in achieving the capacity of the Directorate of Aviation Engineering and Production Management. In the past, replacing these landing gears with a foreign company would have cost the aircraft huge foreign exchange, it added.

The successful completion of the work by the aircraft's own installation, management and manpower has saved an estimated USD 4 lakh. Completing the landing gear replacement of four Boeing 8-300 ER aircraft will save the aircraft about USD 1.6 million, the release read.

The engineers of Biman Bangladesh Airlines have already successfully completed the C-check activities of Dreamliner.
