A resident of Dhaka’s Doha, Ashiq Miah alias Khokon, who had migrated to Saudi Arabia two years ago, recently experienced a medical emergency during his return journey to Bangladesh.

On February 2, Ashiq, traveling on Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight BG340 from Riyadh, suddenly fell ill and lost consciousness. Responding swiftly to the situation, Captain Ishtiaq Ahmed made an emergency landing at Muscat airport in Oman, where Ashiq was subsequently rushed to the airport emergency clinic.

Considering the gravity of his condition, Ashiq was later transferred to KIMS Hospital and subsequently to the Neurology Department at the renowned Government Khoula Hospital in Muscat on the same day. He remained in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) until February 9, and was later shifted to a general bed on February 10. Ashiq’s visa for Oman had been issued under the supervision of Biman Bangladesh Airlines’ Oman office officials from the 2nd of February. After undergoing treatment in three hospitals, he was discharged on February 11, and safely delivered to his relatives in Dhaka aboard Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight BG722.

Biman Bangladesh Airlines, as the national flag carrier, has assured the hospital and airport authorities of covering all expenses related to Ashiq’s medical evacuation and treatment. Biman remains committed to the welfare of the country and its citizens, particularly those working abroad.
