As per its route expansion plans, Biman Bangladesh Airlines is expanding its wings to the south Indian city of Chennai from today (Saturday).

Following the successful route expansion to Guangzhou in China, Toronto in Canada, and Narita in Japan, the national flag carrier is now all set to operate regular flights on the Dhaka- Chennai route. Such development occurred based on the growing demands of the passengers.

The airliner has plans to use Boeing 737 model aircraft on this route three days a week. However, almost all tickets for the maiden flight have already been sold out, according to Biman’s information.

Biman Managing Director and CEO, Shafiul Azim confirming the maiden flight inauguration has said that Biman is starting flight operation on the Dhaka- Chennai route. Following the passenger demand, they have plans to operate more flights on this route in the coming days.

Chennai, the capital of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, in recent times, has become a popular destination for Bangladeshis mainly for trade, treatment and tourism. A good number of people are frequently visiting this southernmost state of India.

“This route (Dhaka-Chennai) can be one of the profitable routes for Biman if they can ensure quality services,” said, aviation expert ATM Nazrul Islam.

For the Dhaka-Chennai route, the minimum one-way fare in economy class, inclusive of all taxes, will begin at Tk 15,520 per person. The return ticket fare is set to start at Tk 26,635. In business class, the minimum one-way fare, including taxes, will start from Tk 37,624, and the return ticket fare will commence at Tk 61,995. Rental amounts may vary based on timing and demand.
