A Dhaka court has granted bail to former Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, Shafikur Rahman, in a case filed over the alleged abuse of a child domestic worker.
On Tuesday, Judge Moin Uddin Chowdhury of the Third Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court in Dhaka granted him bail upon a bond of Tk 5,000, effective until submission of the police investigation report. The information was confirmed by the court’s bench assistant Golam Nabi.
According to the case details, the victim’s father Golam Mostofa, a hotel employee, filed the case on February 1 against Shafikur Rahman, his wife Bithi Rahman, and two domestic workers, Rupali Khatun and Sufia Begum, over allegations of abusing the child.
Following the filing of the case, the accused persons were arrested. On February 2, their bail petitions were rejected and they were sent to jail custody. They were subsequently taken on remand for interrogation.
