Biman aircraft returns safely

‘Advanced treatment for captain will be ensured’

The flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, which made an emergency landing in Nagpur, India due to the illness of the pilot, has reached Dhaka safely with all passengers on board.

The flight landed at Shahjalal Airport around one o'clock on Friday night.

Bangladesh Biman Assistant Manager (Public Relations) Tahera Khandaker confirming the information said, “The Biman Bangladesh flight took off at 10:25 pm Indian time with passengers stranded due to emergency landing in Nagpur, India on a flight from Muscat, Oman to Dhaka.”

An earlier notification said an eight-member rescue team was sent to Nagpur on Friday evening’s scheduled flight to bring back the stranded flight. The pilot of the scheduled flight BG-022 on the Muscat-Dhaka route with a total of 124 passengers on the way to Dhaka suddenly fell sick while in the skies of Raipur, India. 

When contacted by Kolkata Air Traffic Control for an emergency landing, they advised to land at the nearest Nagpur Airport. Later at 10:40 am local time, the flight landed at Babasaheb Ambedkar international airport at Nagpur, Maharashtra. 

All passengers on the flight are safe. Sick pilot Captain Nowshad Ataul was admitted to a local hospital. Currently his physical condition is improving. 

Meanwhile, State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Mahbub Ali said all necessary assistance would be provided to ensure better medical treatment for the ailing pilot of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, Captain Nowshad Ataul Qayyum.

The state minister said this while assuring every member of the Bangladesh Pilots Association in a telephone conversation with its president Captain Mahbubur Rahman on Saturday.

The Minister of State for Aviation further said that skilled pilots like Captain Nowshad Ataul Qayyum are the assets of an organization.

He has shown his skills at different times in his career.

We are all worried that he suddenly fell ill on the way back to Dhaka on 27 August from Muscat, Oman.

His treatment is being monitored round the clock by the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism and Biman Bangladesh Airlines.
