Bijoy likely to get another chance on Australia tour

Media reports indicate that Bangladesh opener Anamul Haque Bijoy, who has long struggled for runs, is set to get another opportunity to prove himself. He will be part of the Bangladesh ‘A’ squad scheduled to play a four-day match against South Australia from August 28 to 31.

The 32-year-old faced heavy criticism after a poor showing in Bangladesh’s most recent Test series in Sri Lanka, where he registered two ducks, a single-digit score, and a scratchy 19. Despite this, selectors have kept faith in him, as the ‘A’ team tour is designed primarily for players who could be in contention for Bangladesh’s national squad during the ICC World Test Championship tour of Australia in August 2026.

According to reports, Bijoy will be joined by Iftakher Hossain, Amite Hasan, Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Shahadat Hossain Dipu, and Hasan Murad. These six players will depart for Australia in two groups on August 17 and 18.

Meanwhile, several ‘A’ team players — currently in Australia for the Top End T20 tournament under the leadership of Nurul Hasan Sohan — are also expected to feature in the four-day game.

It is understood that pacer Hasan Mahmud will play the match, while opener Mohammad Naim, spinner Nayeem Hasan, and wicketkeeper-batter Mahidul Islam, all with prior red-ball experience, may also be given opportunities.
