The Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) has delivered a capacity building training session to the Bangladesh Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).
The two-day training programme was delivered remotely and it ended on Monday, said a press release on Saturday.
The session was organised in partnership with the Embassy of Bangladesh in France and the Bangladesh Export Promotion Bureau (EPB). Dimitri S Kerkentzes, the Secretary General of the BIE, delivered opening remarks, alongside AHM Ahsan, the Vice Chairman of EPB. Over 30 participants from EPB’s Dhaka and Chittagong offices took part in the training session, which featured nine dedicated sessions delivered by BIE officials.
The topics covered by the nine sessions included an introduction to the BIE, the process of organising an expo, and the communication and technical aspects of participating in Expos. The opportunities and benefits of hosting expos and participating in these global events were also addressed.
The capacity building programme is a BIE initiative aimed at supporting its 169 member states and notably providing countries with additional knowledge and specific technical know-how regarding participation in expos and the organisation of expos. The aim of this programme is to support the engagement of Member States in Expos and in the workings of the BIE, therefore fostering the best possible conditions for Expos to serve as attractive and effective platforms for multilateral cooperation, public diplomacy and the education of the public.
Dimitri S. Kerkentzes, Secretary General of the BIE, stated: “The BIE’s capacity building programme contributes to the quality and value of Expo participation, leading to successful long-term outcomes for participating countries. With this successful training session, Bangladesh is demonstrating once again its continued engagement in Expos as unique global platforms to showcase the best the country has to offer.”
AHM Ahsan, the Vice Chairman of the Bangladesh Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), indicated that this type of training session will obviously enhance the capacity of the officials of EPB in terms of participating and organizing international trade fair home and abroad. In addition, today’s session will be playing a great role for effectively participating in different World Expos.
He opined that BIE will continue this type of cooperation in the days ahead in order to showcase Bangladesh in the international arena in an efficient way.
Bangladesh participated for the first time in an expo at Specialised Expo 1993 in Daejeon, Republic of Korea. Since then, it has regularly participated in World and Specialised Expos. In order to strengthen its involvement in Expos, Bangladesh joined the BIE in 1997.
