The Bangladesh Coast Guard detained eight individuals, during an operation against illegal sand extraction in the Meghna River near Gazaria, Munshiganj.
Coast Guard media officer Lt. Commander Harun-ur-Rashid stated that the operation was carried out early Wednesday based on a tip-off. During the raid, three dredgers, three bulkheads, one homemade pistol with one live round, another local weapon, seven mobile phones, and Tk 25,866 in cash were seized.
The detainees hail from Lakshmipur, Bhola, and Chandpur districts. Legal proceedings are underway.
The Coast Guard affirmed that regular patrols are ongoing to maintain law and order in coastal and riverine areas, and similar operations will continue in the future.
