Businessmen of Bhurungamari town went on strike on Saturday demanding unconditional release of AKM Mahmudur Rahman Rosen, Chairman of Sadar Union Parishad of Bhurungamari upazila in Kurigram.

Earlier on Friday afternoon, a silent procession led by Ayesha Akhter, wife of UP Chairman AKM Mahmudur Rahman Rosen was brought out. The procession ended in front of the Upazila Parishad where a sit-in strike was also held.

Meanwhile Ayesha Akhter, wife of the UP Chairman said, “On December 13, police arrested my innocent husband and sent him to jail in a false case. My husband is a cancer patient and took regular chemotherapy.  A conspiracy is being hatched to kill such a helpless man by arresting him in a false case”.

She further said that police have set a nasty example by asking ramand in the case. But, the Judge realizing the matter, dismissed the remand application filed by the police. "I am confident that the court will grant bail to my cancer-stricken husband in the same way that the court has rejected his remand," she said.

It might be mentioned that, since 2003, AKM Mahmudur Rahman Rosen has been serving as the Chairman of Sadar Union Parishad of Bhurungamari Upazila.
