Bholaganj tourist spot of Sylhet needs immediate infrastructural development and modern facilities to make it more attractive and more eye-soothing to the tourists. Experts on tourism said that the promising tourist spot is admired by many local tourists for its captivating beauty, but lacks tourism infrastructure.

Bholaganj is located under Companyganj upazila in the district and it is naturally a beautiful and pleasant tourist spot which attracts many tourists throughout the year from home and abroad.

Locals and experts on tourism have been demanding for a long time to provide the natural tourist site with adequate modern facilities and to make it a popular tourist spot by building all necessary infrastructures of the tourist site.

Abdul Hye Al-Hadi, an environmentalist and expert on tourism, said Bholaganj tourist spot is really an enjoyable place and it can attract a huge number of global tourists if modern facilities are provided there.

Some visiting tourists said, “The naturally beautiful Bholaganj tourist spot needs more infrastructural development including the accommodation and the roads adjacent to the tourist spot.”

The local people say, “We have a lot of naturally beautiful tourist spots in Sylhet. But those tourist spots are losing the presence of tourists for want of infrastructural development.”

Talking to the Bangladesh Post, a manager of a private bank said, “We have many God-gifted natural tourist spots, but we cannot use those in the proper way.”

People urge the government and the private companies to take necessary initiatives to develop the tourist spot all over the country so that the country can earn more foreign currency.

However, many young men and women are seen to come to tourist spot on holidays.

Bholaganj is situated 33 km away to the north from Sylhet city. It is the largest stone quarry in Bangladesh and filled with hills, rivers, waterfalls and quarries.

The Meghalayan clouds, waterfalls from hills and the sandy shores of the Dholai River, ceaseless streams and transparent water of the river are the main attractions that draw tourists to this place, especially in the rainy season.

It takes about two hours to reach Bholaganj from Sylhet as the condition of the road is very poor. There is no direct bus service available from Sylhet city. The tourists have to stay in Sylhet city as there is no accommodation facility at Bholaganj.
