Farmers are deprived of the desired profits from jackfruit cultivation in the Bhawal region of Gazipur. One of the fruits of the summer season is the juicy jackfruit which is a joyous economic activity in the entire Bhawal region.
The people of this region look forward to the jackfruit season all the year round. In the Bhawal region, especially the people of Kapasia, Sripur and Kaliganj, the seasonal fruit jackfruit occupies a special place among them. But due to the prevailing epidemic coronavirus, the seasonal traders of the jackfruit are almost absent.
As a result, the number of wholesale buyers in the jackfruit business has decreased a lot. In the past, Guleta was seen and seasonal traders used to go to orchards in remote villages to buy jackfruits.
As a result, the market was affected. Despite bumper yields of jackfruits in favorable weather conditions this year, farmers have been selling jackfruits at disappointing prices without getting the desired price after bringing a heavy load of jackfruits to the market.
It has been seen that the framers of the area are going through a difficult time by visiting different markets of Gazipur. Abdul Hai, a jackfruit farmer from Kajahaji village in Kapasia upazila, said that he had not gone to the market with jackfruit in recent years. Seasonal traders used to come to their area and buy jackfruits in their own transport system.
This year, two or three seasonal wholesalers came and sold jackfruits at a disappointing price when he took them to the local Rajabari market at his own transport cost.
Tofazzal, a seasonal trader, said that the people of the city moved a bit and the purchasing power of the people has also decreased in this corona situation. Many people are absent in the unknown fear of buying fruits.
Jalil, a seasonal fruit seller in Burmese Bazar, Sreepur, said that the common people of the village used to make a lot of money during the jackfruit season.
Mamun, who owns a large jackfruit orchard in Bhawal Mirzapur, said his orchards were exported abroad every year. This year, he could not send a single jackfruit out of the country. Gazipur or Bhawal region is losing its agriculture due to the development of multi-industrial industries.
Due to various global problems of agriculture, the people of this region are losing interest in producing agricultural products.
