Published : 23 Jul 2022 08:34 PM

One hundred and six individuals and institutions involved in Bhairav river's pollution in Jashore have been identified.  Jashore Water Development Board has made this list.

Among those involved in the contamination, 74 individuals and five institutions have no septic tanks.  Their toilet waste is being dumped directly into the river.

Besides, 13 hospitals and diagnostic centers adjacent to Daratana do not have any septic tanks inside. The sewage lines of these institutions are directly connected to the river.

Even the pathological waste of those institutions is being dumped in the river.

Apart from these, garbage is coming into Bhairav river through 14 municipal drains.

These individuals and organizations are being given notices by the Department of Environment.

Legal action will be taken against the listed persons and institutions if they do not take necessary steps to stop the pollution within the specified period.

This decision was taken at the district development coordination committee meeting at Jashore Collectorate meeting room at 11 o'clock on yesterday.

Deputy Commissioner of Jashore Tamizul Islam Khan presided over the meeting.

The pollution of Bhairav River was discussed in the Law and Order Committee meeting last June. In the discussion it came up that the water of the river is being wasted by dumping dead animals and their waste in the wooden pool after evening.

The situation is the same around Daratana Bridge.

At that time President of Jashore Press Club Zahid Hasan Tukun gave a strong speech about it.

Considering the issue of public importance, Deputy Commissioner Tamizul Islam Khan directed the Water Development Board to submit a report subject to investigation on those involved in Bhairav river pollution.

In that light yesterday, in the district development coordination committee meeting, Executive Engineer of Water Development Board Jashore Tawhidul Islam presented this information and submitted the list to the Directorate of Environment.

In the meeting, Deputy Director of Department of Environment, Jashore, Syed Anwar said that they have already started the work of issuing letters in the name of the accused.

Those involved in the Bhairav river pollution include Abdullah Al Amin's Asim Diagnostic Center in front of the Jashore General Hospital, Rajab Ali Sardar's Popular and Labzone Diagnostic Center, Dr. Atiqur Rahman's King's Hospital, Ekta Hospital on Ghop Nawapara Road, Renaissance Hospital, Bachchu Mia's Asim Diagnostic. Centre, Muktijoddha Nurul Alam's Scan Hospital, Doctor Ghulam Farooq's Orthopedics Hospital and Popular, Lab Zone and Desh Clinic, Mumtaz's Scan and Unique Hospital.

The Ekota Hospital Director Sirajul Islam Mohan said that the report given is fabricated and untrue.  Their institution has its own septic tank.  In addition, the pathological waste of their hospital is transported by an organization called Prism Bangladesh. Prism Bangladesh has to pay four thousand taka per month from their organization for waste transportation. That is why the allegations against them are not true.

Deputy Commissioner Tamizul Islam Khan said, Bhairav river is the life of Jashore. The river must flow at any cost. It should be done pollution-free.
