‘Bhager Manush’ in West Bengal

Somoy Natyadal’s play ‘Bhager Manush’ is adapted by noted playwright Mannan Heera from the popular Urdu short story ‘Toba Tek Singh’ by Saadat Hasan Manto, the play is directed by Aly Zaker. This is the 26th production of Somoy Natyadal. Since 1997, the theater troupe has been performing the play at home and abroad.

On December 19th, the theater troupe received an invitation to perform ‘Bhager Manush’ at a drama fair in Berhampore. They will leave Dhaka for Kolkata on December 17th with a 30-member team. Meanwhile, the play will also be staged at 7pm at the Experimental Theater of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy this evening.

The cast of the play includes Pavel Islam, Riaz Mahmud Jewel, Aktaruzzaman, Rezaur Rahman Rizon, Fakhrul Islam Mithu, Monsura Rashid Lovely, Mahmudul Alam, Tofayel Sarkar, Sunita Barua, Maqsudul Bari Tipu, Anwar, Mousumi, Sani and Masum, among others.

The story of the play is based a few years after the partition of 1947. This is not merely a partition of map; rather, it has long been mingled with the luck, love, property, savings and various events of love of millions of people of the Indian subcontinent. ‘Bhager Manush’ tells the story of lives changed by the partition of India and how it has left a lasting impact on our society.
