BGMEA President Faruque Hassan assured the family of slain workers leader Shahidul Islam of providing necessary financial assistance.
Faruque expressed this while addressing a meeting, held between leaders of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and IndustriALL Bangladesh Council (IBC) at BGMEA Complex in Uttara recently.
BGMEA President Faruque Hassan presided over the meeting which was also attended by Senior Vice President SM Mannan (Kochi), Vice President Md. Nasir Uddin, Director Haroon Ar Rashid, Chairman of BGMEA Standing Committee on Labour and ILO affairs ANM Saifuddin, Chairman of BGMEA Standing Committee on Labour Arbitration Md. Rafiqul Islam, Co-Chairman of BGMEA Standing Committee on Labour Arbitration Ziaur Rahman, Managing Director of JMS Composite Knitwear Limited Mazharul Hasan Jewel.
From the IBC side, Amirul Haque Amin, President, IBC; Kutubuddin Ahmed, Secretary General, IBC; Babul Akhter, Secretary General, Bangladesh Garments Industrial Workers Federation; Z.M. Kamrul Anam, President, Bangladesh Textile and Garments Workers League; Towhidur Rahman, President, Bangladesh Poshak Shilpa Sramik Federation; Rashedul Alam Raju, Secretary General, BIGUF; China Rahman; Secretary General of the Federation of Garments Workers; Nurul Islam, Secretary General of United Federation of Garments Workers; and Kamrul Hasan, Secretary General, Akota Garments Sramik Federation were present at the meeting.
The meeting adopted a condolence motion over the death of Md. Shahidul Islam, the President of the Gazipur District unit of Bangladesh Garments and Industrial Workers Federation, which took place in the Tangi Baganbar area on 25th June.
Strong condemnation was expressed by BGMEA over the death incident, along with prayers for the departed soul of Shahidul Islam and deep condolences to the bereaved family.
The meeting also acknowledged the contribution of Shahidul Islam in upholding the rights of the garment workers would always be remembered.
They urged the government o bring the perpetrators involved in the death incident of Md.
Mentionable here that the President of BGMEA had previously expressed deep condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family in a mourning message related to this incident.
