BGB seizes over 11 maunds of Hilsa from Goga border

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized 11 maunds and a half tonnes of hilsa fish from Goga border while smuggling to India, in Sharsha upazila of Jashore district on Tuesday night. 

The value of the seized hilsa fish was Tk 4 lakh 60 thousand, said BGB.

Lt Col. Manzur Elahi, commanding officer 21 BGB battalion, confirmed the matter. He said that 11-and-a-half tonnes of hilsa fish were seized from the Goga border area while being smuggled into India on a tip-off. The seized fish was given to the children in an orphanage in Goga village with the permission of the authorities.

The villagers of Goga said that smugglers had been bringing Phencidyl, alcohol, and silver from India for a long time. And they are smuggling gold, dollars and hilsa fish from Bangladesh. The BGB has been conducting raids from time to time and seizing several consignments.
