Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized one kg of Indian crystal meth (ice) worth Tk 5 crore from Kalaroa upazila of Satkhira on Tuesday.
The drug was seized from Kakdanga border in Hotatganj area under Kalaroa upazila of Satkhira district on Tuesday night. However, BGB was not able to detain anyone as the smugglers fled the scene sensing the presence of BGB at that time.
BGB said they received information that a large supply of crystal meth was being smuggled into Bangladesh from India through Kakdanag border in Hotatganj area under Kalaroa upazila. Acting on the information, a BGB patrol team of Kakdanga BOP led by Naib Subedar Md Shamim Alam conducted a drive at that area.
They seized one kg of Indian crystal meth from there at that time. However, the smugglers fled the scene sensing the presence of BGB patrol team at that time and they were not able to detain anyone.
BGB also said the market value of the crystal meth that they seized is Tk 5 crore.
Commander of Satkhira BGB 33 Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Md Ashraful Haque, said in order to take legal measures regarding the seized drugs, process is underway to file a General Diary at Satkhira Department of Narcotics Control.
