Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized 50,000 pieces of yaba after conducting a drive in Teknaf Upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Tuesday.
The drugs were seized from Seyarigoda area in the Upazila. However, BGB was not able to detain anyone in connection with this incident.
Commander of BGB 2 Teknaf Battalion Lieutenant Colonel Mohiuddin Ahmed confirmed the matter on Tuesday morning.
He said it was known through a tip-off that a supply of drugs may be smuggled into Bangladesh from Myanmar through Seyarigoda area in Teknaf Upazila. Acting on the tip-off, a BGB patrol team took position in that area. At around 2:30am, the BGB patrol team challenged two people on suspicion. Sensing their presence, the duo fled the scene leaving two plastic bags. 50,000 pieces of yaba pills were recovered from the bags.
Legal procedure was underway regarding this incident, said the BGB official.
