Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized 480,000 yaba tablets from the Katakhali border area in Ukhiya upazila of Cox’s Bazar.
The operation was carried out on Thursday night by members of the Palongkhali Border Outpost (BOP) under the Ukhiya Battalion (64 BGB).
Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Jasim Uddin, commanding officer of the 64 BGB, stated that they had received intelligence about a yaba consignment attempting to enter Bangladesh from Myanmar near border pillar BRM-18. Acting on the information, a team positioned themselves strategically about two kilometres southeast of the Palongkhali BOP in the Katakhali area.
At around 8pm, BGB personnel spotted seven individuals crossing the embankment road through a fish enclosure. Upon being challenged, the suspects dropped four black bags and fled under cover of darkness.
Upon searching the bags, BGB recovered 480,000 yaba tablets packed into 48 cartons. Although no arrests were made, intelligence efforts are ongoing to identify those involved in the smuggling attempt.
The seized drugs are in the process of being handed over to Ukhiya Police Station.
