BGB seizes 2 lakh Yaba pills after gunfight with smugglers

The Border Guard Bangladesh’s (BGB) alleged gunfight with Yaba traders took place in Ukhia upazila of Cox's Bazar district. 

The BGB claimed that the smugglers fled across the Naf River to Myanmar leaving behind 200,000 Yaba tablets at that time. They were rescued from the hill of Balukhali in Palangkhali union of the upazila on Friday night.

Cox's Bazar 34 BGB Captain Md Mehedi Hossain Kabir said that based on secret information, the BGB came to know that some Yaba traders would enter Bangladesh from Myanmar with huge quantities of drugs. According to the intelligence, the BGB patrol team took position at Katapahar area in Balukhali.

Later at the wee hours of the night, 4/5 people were coming towards Bangladesh from the border area and the BGB patrol team challenged them. At that time the smugglers fired at the BGB. 

The BGB then also fired 20 rounds in self-defense. The smugglers then dropped their sacks on the ground, quickly crossed the Naf River and fled through the jungle to Myanmar. A total of 2 lakhs of Yaba tablets was later recovered from the spot. Captain Md Mehedi Hossain Kabir added that the rescued yaba would be destroyed later.
