In a special operation, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized two foreign-made pistols, ammunition, and a significant quantity of cannabis in the Cumilla border area, officials confirmed on Monday.
Acting on a tip-off and under the directives of the battalion commander, a special patrol team from the Jashpur Border Outpost (BOP) conducted the raid in the Dhanpur field area of Sadar South upazila in the early hours of the morning.
The operation, which took place around 3:30 AM, was launched approximately 200 yards inside the zero line of the border. During the sweep, the BGB team recovered two pistols, two magazines, two rounds of ammunition, and 12 kilograms of cannabis (ganja).
A BGB spokesperson stated that the Cumilla Battalion (10 BGB) remains ever-vigilant in preventing smuggling of arms, narcotics, and other contraband in its responsible border area. Patrols and intelligence surveillance have been intensified as part of these efforts.
"This successful operation reflects BGB's professionalism and unwavering commitment to border security," the spokesperson added. "The Cumilla Battalion maintains a strict stance to curb any kind of crime along the border."
Following the seizure, the BGB filed a case as the plaintiff at the Sadar South Model Police Station under the Arms Act.
The raid is part of the BGB's regular drives to ensure border security and prevent cross-border smuggling, guided by the motto declared by its Director General: "BGB will be the symbol of security and trust at the border."
