A foreign-made pistol, two magazines, and three rounds of ammunition were recovered during a Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) operation near the Maheshpur border in Jhenaidah late Monday night.

Acting on a tip-off, a special joint patrol team from the 58 BGB battalion and Shamanta BOP conducted the operation around 11:00pm in the village of Nishchintapur, approximately 350 yards inside Bangladesh from border pillar 59/3-S.

According to a BGB press release, the patrol team spotted a suspicious object near the edge of a jute field belonging to local resident Julu Mia. A subsequent search uncovered a U.S.-made pistol, two magazines, and three 7.65 KF bullets, all found abandoned with no claimant.

Assistant Director Md. Munshi Imdadur Rahman stated that BGB remains vigilant against smuggling and illegal arms infiltration.

The recovered items will be handed over to Maheshpur Police Station following legal procedures. Locals expressed relief at BGB’s swift action despite initial concern.
