Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has taken a commendable initiative to provide safe drinking water and medical services to the coastal border communities near the Sundarbans in Satkhira.

On Tuesday morning, BGB Director General Major General Ashraful Zaman Siddiqui officially inaugurated a clean water plant and a medical service programme at Kaikhali SR Secondary School in Shyamnagar upazila. The event was presided over by Lt. Colonel Shahriar Rajib, Commanding Officer of the 17 BGB Battalion (Nil Dumur).

During the programme, 80 underprivileged families received aid, while a medical team comprising specialist doctors provided treatment to 120 patients from the area.

Also present were BGB Additional Director General Brigadier General Naufel Mahmud, Brigadier Sohrab Hossain Bhuiyan, Md. Shariful Islam, Jessore Regional Commander Md. Yasir Jahan Hossain, and Khulna Sector Commander Colonel Mehedi Hasan Chowdhury.

The BGB chief stated that their role extends beyond border security — they are committed to supporting local communities. He emphasised the importance of free, clean water in saline-affected areas.

Local residents expressed heartfelt gratitude to the BGB for these essential services.

Also in attendance were Satkhira Superintendent of Police Munirul Islam, ADC Moinul Islam, and other local officials.
