BGB on alert toprevent rawhide smuggling

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) issued a warning at the Benapole border to prevent rawhide
smuggling to India deploying more personnel at various points of the border amid the fall of rawhide.
The BGB stepped up surveillance on land and railways, including the port area.
According to BGB sources, security was beefed up at Putkhali, Goga, Kayba, Agrabhulot, Rudrapur, Daulatpur, Gatipara, Ghiba, Sadipur, Bara Anchra, Kashipur and Raghunathpur border areas of Benapole and Sharsha.
BGB-49 Battalion Commanding Officer Lt Colonel Selim Reza said the BGB has been kept on high alert to prevent smuggling of rawhide across the border.
Surveillance at BGB posts along the border points and patro lling have been heightened, he added.
Benapole Port Police Station OC Mamun Khan said the police always work to prevent all types
of smuggling through the border area.
Since the price of hide is higher in India smuggling is likely, the police will remain village to thwart any smuggling bid, he added.
